David Ellis BVetMed DEO FRCVS

David qualified in 1968 from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London.

He initially spent two years in Petersfield prior to settling in Newmarket and becoming a partner at Greenwood Ellis & Partners in 1975. He specialises in equine orthopaedics, with a strong interest in foals. He obtained his Diploma in Equine Orthopaedics in 1990 and Fellowship of the RCVS in 1984. He is widely published and a well recognised expert in this area. David is the senior partner at Greenwood Ellis & Partners and has been closely involved with the development of the practice and the new hospital facilities.

Since 1999, David has been Director of the Veterinary Defence Society and a member of the Veterinary Advisory Committee to the Thoroughbred Breeders Association. He is also a Member of the Veterinary Advisory Committee to the HRA (for the second time), Veterinary Advisor to the Racehorse Owners Association, ROA Representative on the HRA Counter Analysis Advisory Committee, and a member of the Tattersalls Adjudication Panel re ‘wind’ Conditions of Sale. He is also a member of the Advisory Board to the Equine Veterinary Journal and the TBA Courses Committee, an Associate Lecturer at Cambridge University Veterinary School and Chairman of the Examiners for the RCVS Certificate of Equine Practice as well as a Hong Kong Jockey Club Nominated Veterinary Surgeon.

David was a member of the BEVA Council for 10 years and was President in 1990-91. He has also won the BEVA Richard Hartley Clinical Prize (1987) and the BEVA Sir Frederick Hobday Memorial Medal (1992).

 

Richard Greenwood MA VetMB MRCVS

Richard Greenwood qualified from Cambridge University in 1964. After two years in general practice, he spent three years in the Hunter Valley, Australia working in thoroughbred stud practice for Murray Bain, a great pioneer in the field.

Richard returned to the UK in 1970 and joined the practice working under Fred Day and Bob Crowhurst. He became a partner in 1973 and was senior partner from 1991 to 2003 before retiring from practice in 2006.

Richard is particularly interested in equine reproduction and did much collaborative work with Professor ‘Twink’ Allen at the Equine Fertility Unit. He is now Veterinary Advisor to the Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Trustee of the Cambridge University Veterinary School Trust.

Lesley Young BVSc DVC DVA Dip ECEIM PhD MRCVS

Lesley Young graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1987. After a short spell at Glasgow, she attained her RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 1990 and worked as a lecturer in anaesthesia at Liverpool vet school until 1991 when she moved north to gain a PhD in the effects of general anaesthesia on the equine heart. Her interest in equine cardiovascular physiology then shifted slightly to the clinical cardiology of athletic horses and she ran a referral cardiology and sports medicine service at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, making significant contributions to applied clinical research in both equine cardiovascular function under general anaesthesia and sports horse cardiology during that period. She obtained her RCVS Diploma in veterinary Cardiology in 2000 and was given RCVS recognised specialist status in veterinary cardiology in 2006. Since December 2005, she has provided an ambulatory equine cardiology referral service to general practitioners throughout the UK and Europe.
