Partners
James Crowhurst MA VetMB MRCVS
James graduated in 1978 from the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge.
Having worked in Queensland, Kentucky and New South Wales, he returned to the UK to work with Professor 'Twink' Allen at ARC before joining Greenwood Ellis & Partners in 1981. He became a partner in 1984.
James's principal interest is stud medicine and he was Chairman of the Newmarket Stud Farmers Association between 2001 and 2006.
Andrew Edgar BVM&S MRCVS
Andrew qualified 1978 from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. He spent three years in mixed practice in Shropshire before moving to Newmarket to join Greenwood Ellis & Partners. Andrew become a partner in 1986. He now works exclusively as veterinary advisor to an owner/breeder.
Huw Neal MA VetMB MRCVS
Huw graduated from Cambridge in 1983 and came to Newmarket after two years in Thirsk. Most of his time is spent working with stud farms and National Hunt racehorses.
Huw’s special interests include fertility evaluations in mares and stallions, foetal sex determination, laparoscopic investigation/treatment of fertility disorders and surgery of the reproductive organs.
David Dugdale MA VetMB CertEP CertESM MRCVS
David qualified in 1986 from the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge.
After some time working in mixed practices in Hertfordshire and Malton, North Yorkshire, David joined Greenwood Ellis & Partners in 1989 and became a partner in 1995. He has responsibility for a number of Thoroughbred stud farms and racing stables and has a particular interest in the control of inflammatory airway disease in horses in training.
David obtained his Certificates in Equine Practice in 1990 and in Equine Stud Medicine in 1992. He held the position of Chief Examiner for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in Equine Stud Medicine for several years and has lectured regularly at the TBA Stud Farming Course, the National Stud and Cambridge University. David joined the Council of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) in 1998 and in 2008 became President. He also sits as a veterinary representative on the BHA Industry Committee and is a Trustee of the University of Cambridge Veterinary School Trust.
Benoit Herinckx DrMedVet CertEP MRCVS
Benoit qualified in 1986 from the University of Liege.
He undertook his military service, attached to the cavalry, prior to joining the practice in 1988. He obtained his Certificate in Equine Practice in 1993 and became a partner in 1995.
He specialises in racehorse lameness and medicine and has a strong interest in competition horses. He also carries out many pre-purchase examinations for private sales and at all major yearling and horses in training sales.
Charlie Smith BVetMed CertEP MRCVS
Charlie qualified in 1987 from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London.
After a brief period in mixed practice, Charlie moved to a small equine practice where he specialised in competition horses and polo ponies. He joined Greenwood Ellis & Partners in 1993 initially working predominately on the racing side of the practice. He took sabbaticals gaining experience in stud medicine at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Charlie obtained his Certificate in Equine Practice in 1999. He became a partner in 2000 and now divides his time between racetrack medicine, stud medicine and referral clients.
He has spent time on the committee of the Association of Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons.
His interests focus on lameness investigation, cardiology and stud medicine.
David Bartram BVsc DVA MRCVS
David qualified in 1989 from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Liverpool.
After qualifying, David specialised in anaesthesia at Liverpool University and the Animal Health Trust and obtained his Diplomate in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 1992. He joined Greenwood Ellis & Partners in 1996 and became a partner in 2005. His principal involvement is with horses in training. David is a Hong Kong Jockey Club Nominated Veterinary Surgeon and a member of the veterinary panel of Doncaster Bloodstock Sales.
Simon Waterhouse BVetMed CertEP MRCVS
Simon qualified in 1994 from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London and he obtained his Certificate in Equine Practice in 2003.
Simon worked in mixed equine practice prior to going to Australia. On his return in 1997, he joined Greenwood Ellis & Partners and became a partner in 2005. He has also worked in South Africa and spent time in Turkey and Morocco, where he worked with SPANA (Society for the Protection of Animals Overseas).
His role covers both horses in training and stud work.

Zara Wise MA VetMB MRCVS
Zara qualified in 2000 from the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge.
She joined Greenwood Ellis & Partners in October 2001 and has spent the last seven years doing mainly stud work, including all aspects of mare and foal care. She specialises particularly in neonatal care and artificial insemination (A.I.). In 2004 she spent a season doing stud work in Scone, Australia.
Rob Pilsworth MA VetMB Bsc(Hons) CertVR MRCVS
Rob qualified in 1981 from the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge as a mature student after taking a Physiology Degree at the University of Birmingham.
He spent 4 years in mixed practice before joining an equine practice in 1985, becoming a partner in 1986. He started at Greenwood Ellis & Partners in 2006 to work on a secondment to a large racehorse training yard. He is also an Associate Lecturer at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge.
Rob’s interests lie in imaging, lameness and skin diseases and he has been widely published. He completed his Certificate in Veterinary Radiology 1987 and was employed by Doncaster Bloodstock Sales as part of their veterinary panel from 1995-2005. He was course organiser of the Radiation Protection Supervisory Course (2003) and Equine Dermatology Course (2005) both for BEVA.
Assistants
Jeremy Allen BSc Vet MB MRCVS
Jeremy qualified in 1998 from the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge having taken a degree in Animal Science.
He enjoys all aspects of equine practice and often finds his work takes him to clients with general riding horses. He has a particular interest in equine dentistry and also covers anaesthesia in theatre when required.
He is a keen polo player who particularly enjoys breeding and training young ponies – often local thoroughbred ex-racehorses!
Tom Eaton-Evans BVetMed MRCVS
Tom qualified in 2000 from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London.
He then spent a two year internship with the referrals team at Greenwood Ellis & Partners prior to joining the ambulatory team. He has a particular interest in yearlings, radiography and the early stages of racehorse training. He also attends all the sales at Tattersalls where he is the main radiographer for the practice.
Jan Pynn BVSc MRCVS
Jan qualified in 2001 from the School of Veterinary Science, University of Bristol.
She worked in general equine practice for three years where she gained an interest in reproductive work and artificial insemination (A.I.). Following a stud season in New Zealand, she joined Greenwood Ellis & Partners in 2006.
Her interests include all forms of stud work, including A.I. and neonatal care.
Mark Tunstill BVetMed(Hons) MRCVS
Mark qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 2004.
He spent a two year internship with Greenwood Ellis & Partners where he was involved with the referral and surgery teams. Having spent 6 months in New Zealand undertaking mixed equine work, Mark returned to Greenwood Ellis & Partners as an assistant on the ambulatory team.
His interests are mainly associated with horses in training and lameness.
Sally Bainton BVSc MRCVS
Sally qualified in 2004 from the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Liverpool.
Sally spent three years in equine practice around the UK where she developed a special interest in stud medicine and anaesthesia. She spent the 2007 stud season in Australia before joining Greenwood Ellis & Partners in early 2008.
Sally has also done charity work for the Donkey Sanctuary and for SPCA in South and eastern Africa.
Stuart Pearson BVM&S MRCVS
Stuart qualified in 1997 from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh.
He spent time in a mixed practice in Dundee before completing an internship in a large equine practice in Newmarket. He then worked in an equine practice in Western Australia before returning to the UK and working for an equine practice in Hertfordshire.
He joined Newmarket Equine Hospital in March 2009 in a new role with responsibility for Sports and Leisure horses.
Jennie Henderson BVSc MSc Cert EM(StudMed) DECEIM MRCVS
Jennie graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2002 and worked in Shropshire for two stud seasons, shuttling to Australia to complete an internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital and a season at Arrowfield Stud and obtained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Stud Medicine in 2005. Following a 3 year Residency in Equine Internal Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, sponsored by The Horse Trust, Jennie gained an MSc in hyperlactataemia and survival in neonatal foals and became a Diplomat of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2009. Jennie joined NEH in 2011 after three years in Co Kildare at Darley's Kildangan Stud and has a particular interest in internal medicine, neonatology and problem broodmares.
Paul Ormond MVB MRCVS
Paul graduated from University College, Dublin in 2009. He then undertook a 12 month surgery internship at Hagyard Davidson McGee in Lexington, Kentucky before spending the 2010 breeding season on a stud in Victoria, Australia.
Paul joined Newmarket Equine Hospital in March 2011. His interests include both horses in training and stud work.
Katie Wilcox BVSc MRCVS
Katie graduated from Liverpool University in 2007 and spent the following 2 years working as an intern with the referrals team at Newmarket Equine Hospital. On finishing the internship in 2009 Katie went to work as a ambulatory stud assosciate at Scone Equine Hospital in Australia. Katie has recently returned to NEH for the 2011 stud season. Over the next couple of years she plans to rotate between Newmarket and Scone for their respective breeding seasons in order to pursue her interests in equine reproduction and neonatology.
Jessica Austin BSc (Hons) BVetMed MRCVS
Jess first graduated in 2006 with a BSc in Bioveterinary science from the University of Liverpool, and then completed the veterinary degree at The Royal Veterinary College, London. After 9 months in general equine practice in Kent, Jess joined NEH as an ambulatory intern.
