Arrival and Admission
Reception
Upon arrival at NEH drive through the automatic black gates. Out of hours there is an intercom system to enable you to contact the duty intern. The lorry and trailer park is signposted and once you have parked please go to the stables office before unloading where our Stables Manager Julie Andrews will be pleased to welcome you. Your horse can then be unloaded into appropriate stabling. Details regarding your horse’s diet and any special requirements will be taken at this time.
NB: For health and safety and for insurance purposes, we ask you to allow our professional yard staff to handle your horse once in the main hospital site.
Bedding
Horses are routinely stabled on shavings. However, we do have cardboard bedding for horses with respiratory allergies.
Equipment
You are welcome to leave any bandages, boots or rugs your horse may need and in the case of ridden assessments the referral veterinary surgeon will advise if any tack needs to be kept for the investigation.
Consultation
The consultation with the appropriate member of the referrals team will them take place. A history will be taken and the plan for the initial investigation discussed. Please feel free to ask any questions at this stage. It is likely that your horse will need to be admitted as accurate assessment and appropriate treatment is rarely possible on an “outpatient” basis.
