Our story

Independent & innovative since 1912
Newmarket Equine Hospital has been at the heart of equine veterinary care for over a century. Founded in 1912, we remain proudly independent, a rarity in an era of corporate consolidation, allowing us to continue the legacy of personalised, dedicated care that has defined this practice from the very beginning.
Our independence allows us to invest in the people and facilities that reflect our commitment to combining experience, expertise and innovation in the care of your horse.

Where it all began
In 1912, William Livock moved into March House on Newmarket’s High Street — a building that had served as a veterinary practice since the mid-19th century. He was joined in 1923 by Brayley Reynolds, who, following distinguished service in the Veterinary Corps during the First World War, had become head of clinical studies at the Royal Veterinary College.
The practice continued to grow through generations of distinguished equine vets. Geoff Leader brought an insider’s understanding of the racing world as a member of the long-established family of Newmarket horse trainers. Fred Day specialised in stud work. Bob Crowhurst developed the surgical facilities. Donald Simpson became veterinarian to the National Stud. In its later years on the High Street, the practice was known as Greenwood, Ellis and Partners.

Where we are today
Today, NEH is home to over 40 equine veterinarians and a large team of nurses, grooms, and support staff. We provide veterinary services across Newmarket and to clients from across the UK and internationally.
Our associated practices in the Cotswolds and Chantilly extend our reach while maintaining the same values and standards. We remain fiercely independent because it’s how we deliver our best work.
